pinsetters
Bowling alley machines
Pinsetters are machines in bowling alleys that automatically clear fallen pins and reset them in formation after each roll.
Before mechanical pinsetters became standard in the mid-20th century, the job was done by hand—pin boys would scramble to reset pins between throws.
The term occasionally refers to those human workers: My grandfather worked as a pinsetter during the Depression.
