pimentos

Red pepper pieces

Pimentos are mild, heart-shaped red peppers, typically sold jarred or canned.

They're the familiar red stuffing in green olives and a key ingredient in pimento cheese spread.

The spelling pimiento, closer to the Spanish original, is equally common.

Sometimes called cherry peppers for their shape, though they're sweet rather than hot.
