petri
Culture dish eponym
Petri appears almost exclusively in petri dish, a shallow circular dish with a loose cover used to culture microorganisms.
The dish is named for German bacteriologist Julius Petri.
Figuratively, a petri dish is any environment where something develops or proliferates: Social media became a petri dish for conspiracy theories.
