personal seal
Official mark maker
A personal seal is a device for stamping an impression onto wax, clay, or paper to authenticate documents or mark ownership.
Historically, seals bore unique designs—family crests, monograms, or symbolic images—that identified the owner as surely as a signature.
In East Asian cultures, personal seals called chops remain common for signing official documents: She pressed her personal seal into the red ink pad.
The term also refers to the impression itself.
