verbal agreement
Promise through speech
A verbal agreement is an agreement made through spoken words rather than written documentation.
Such agreements can be legally binding, though they're harder to prove than written contracts: We had a verbal agreement that he'd pay me back by Friday.
The term is sometimes used loosely to mean any informal understanding between parties.
