corporate seal

Official business emblem

A corporate seal is an embossed stamp that a company uses to authenticate official documents.

Historically required on contracts, stock certificates, and other legal papers to make them binding, the seal typically shows the company name, state of incorporation, and year of formation.

Most jurisdictions no longer require corporate seals, but many companies maintain them for formality: The attorney pressed the corporate seal into the signature page.
