pentomino

Quintet of squares

A pentomino is a geometric shape formed by joining five identical squares edge to edge.

There are twelve distinct pentominoes, often named by letters they resemble: F, I, L, N, P, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z.

Pentominoes appear in puzzles where the goal is to arrange all twelve pieces into a rectangle or other shape without overlap.

We spent the afternoon trying to solve the pentomino puzzle.
