pentobarbital
Lethal injection drug
Pentobarbital is a barbiturate drug that depresses the central nervous system.
It was once widely prescribed as a sedative and sleep aid but has largely been replaced by safer alternatives.
Medical uses now include anesthesia induction and seizure control.
Pentobarbital is also used in veterinary euthanasia and, controversially, in lethal injections for capital punishment.
