pennywhistles
Simple metal flutes
Pennywhistles are simple wind instruments—small metal or wooden flutes with six finger holes, producing a high, clear tone.
Also called tin whistles, they're associated with Irish and Celtic folk music.
The name reflects their original cheapness: instruments anyone could afford.
She learned to play pennywhistle before moving on to the flute.
