hardness scale
Mineral scratch ranking
A hardness scale measures how resistant a material is to scratching, indentation, or deformation.
The Mohs scale ranks minerals from 1 (talite) to 10 (diamond) based on which can scratch which.
Industrial applications use Rockwell, Vickers, or Brinell scales, which measure resistance to penetration by standardized tools under controlled force.
