pegboxes
Peg housing compartments
Pegboxes is the plural of pegbox, the part of a stringed instrument where the tuning pegs are inserted.
Located at the end of the neck, the pegbox holds the pegs that wind and tighten the strings to adjust pitch.
Violins, guitars, and lutes all have pegboxes, though their shapes vary by instrument family.
