peach pit
Cobbler's discarded core
The peach pit is the hard, ridged stone at the center of a peach, encasing the seed.
Also called a peach stone.
The pit must be removed before eating or cooking: She split the peach and twisted out the pit.
Peach pits contain trace amounts of cyanide compounds, making them mildly toxic if crushed and consumed in quantity.
