party schools
Fun-focused colleges
Party schools are colleges or universities with reputations for active social scenes, heavy drinking, and emphasis on nightlife over academics.
The designation is informal and often based on student surveys or media rankings rather than objective measures.
Students may choose such schools partly for their social atmosphere, though the label can unfairly overshadow genuine academic programs.
State universities with large Greek systems often get labeled party schools.
