palefaces

Native Americans' term

Palefaces is a dated term for white people, used historically in depictions of Native American speech.

The word appears almost exclusively in old Western films and novels, where Indigenous characters supposedly called European settlers palefaces.

It now sounds campy and stereotypical, a Hollywood invention rather than authentic Native American usage: The palefaces came from the East.
