paisleys

Teardrop-shaped swirling motifs

Paisleys are fabrics, garments, or designs featuring the paisley pattern—a distinctive teardrop or kidney shape with a curved, feathery tail.

The pattern originates from South Asian textile traditions and became associated with the Scottish town of Paisley, which mass-produced imitation shawls in the 19th century: She wore one of her vintage paisleys to the party.
