grogginess

Half-awake mental fog

Grogginess is the sluggish, foggy state of not being fully awake or alert.

It typically follows insufficient sleep, anesthesia, or heavy drinking: I couldn't shake the grogginess after my red-eye flight.

The word comes from grog, a diluted rum once served to sailors—grogginess was originally drunkenness.
