original film
Not the remake
An original film is a movie that isn't based on existing source material—not adapted from a book, remake of an earlier film, sequel, or part of a franchise.
The term gained currency as studios increasingly relied on established properties: The streaming service invested heavily in original films rather than licensed content.
Original film also describes a movie's first release version, as opposed to a director's cut or remaster.
