orchestral arrangement
Full ensemble adaptation
An orchestral arrangement is a version of a musical composition adapted for orchestra, often from a piece originally written for another medium—piano, voice, small ensemble, or popular song.
The arranger assigns parts to different instruments, choosing which play the melody, harmony, or accompaniment: The orchestral arrangement of the folk tune added sweeping strings and brass fanfares.
Distinguished from orchestration, which may refer to the original scoring of a work conceived for orchestra.
