unplugged version
Sans amplification performance
An unplugged version is a performance or recording of a song using acoustic instruments rather than electric ones.
The term gained currency from MTV's *Unplugged* series, where rock and pop artists performed stripped-down sets without electric guitars, synthesizers, or heavy production: The unplugged version of that song is better than the original.
The format often reveals whether a song can stand on melody and lyrics alone.
