on-ear headphones
Pads on ears
On-ear headphones are headphones with cushioned pads that rest directly on the outer ear rather than enclosing it completely or sitting inside the ear canal.
They offer a middle ground between the full isolation of over-ear headphones and the portability of earbuds: I prefer on-ear headphones for commuting—they're lighter than over-ears but don't fall out like earbuds.
