in-ear monitors
Musicians' personal speakers
In-ear monitors are small earpieces worn by musicians during live performances to hear themselves and other instruments clearly.
Unlike traditional stage monitors (speakers on the floor), they fit inside the ear canal and deliver a personalized mix directly to the performer: The singer adjusted her in-ear monitors between songs.
Often shortened to IEMs.
