officers mess
Brass dining hall
An officers mess is a dining and social facility on a military base reserved for commissioned officers.
The term comes from the older sense of mess as a group who eat together.
The mess serves as both cafeteria and club, where officers dine, socialize, and hold formal functions: Drinks were served in the officers mess after the ceremony.
Also spelled officers' mess.
