Outside the shot

Off-screen describes what happens outside the visible frame of a film, television show, or video.

A character who dies off-screen meets their end without the audience seeing it.

The term extends to actors' lives away from their roles: Off-screen, the two costars were bitter rivals.

Also used as an adverb: The explosion occurred off-screen.
