off-licenses

Alcohol retail shops

Off-licenses are British shops licensed to sell alcohol for consumption elsewhere—as opposed to pubs, which are licensed for on-premises drinking.

The term also refers to the licenses themselves.

Americans would call such a shop a liquor store or package store: I'm popping round to the off-license for some wine.
