non-fungible tokens

Unique digital assets

Non-fungible tokens are unique digital assets verified through blockchain technology, typically representing ownership of digital art, collectibles, or other media.

Unlike cryptocurrencies, each NFT is distinct and cannot be exchanged one-for-one with another—hence non-fungible.

The term gained widespread use during the early 2020s boom in digital art sales: He sold an NFT of his artwork for thousands.

Usually abbreviated NFT.
