non-compete
Post-employment restriction clause
A non-compete is a contractual clause or agreement that restricts someone from working for competitors or starting a rival business for a specified period after leaving a job: She couldn't join the other firm because of her non-compete.
Such agreements protect trade secrets and client relationships but can limit workers' career mobility.
Also called a non-compete clause or non-compete agreement.
