neurotoxicity

Nervous system damage

Neurotoxicity is the capacity of a substance to damage or destroy nerve tissue.

The term describes both the property itself and its effects: a chemical's neurotoxicity, or the neurotoxicity resulting from exposure.

Heavy metals, certain pesticides, and some medications can cause neurotoxicity, leading to symptoms ranging from numbness to cognitive impairment.

The drug was withdrawn due to neurotoxicity observed in clinical trials.
