L5

Fifth lumbar bone

L5 refers to the fifth lumbar vertebra, the lowest bone of the spine before the sacrum.

This vertebra bears much of the body's weight and is a common site of back problems: The MRI showed a herniated disc at L5.

L5 also designates the fifth Lagrange point—a gravitationally stable position in orbital mechanics where spacecraft can maintain position relative to two larger bodies.
