navigation tools
Direction-finding gear
Navigation tools are instruments or technologies used to determine position and direction of travel.
Traditional examples include compasses, sextants, and maps; modern ones include GPS devices and smartphone apps.
The term extends to software features that help users move through digital spaces: The website's navigation tools were confusing.
In vehicles, navigation tools often refer specifically to route-finding systems: My car's navigation tools rerouted me around the traffic.
