animal instincts
Nature's built-in programming
Animal instincts are the innate, unlearned behaviors that drive survival and reproduction—fight or flight, hunger, sexual drive.
In humans, the phrase often describes primal urges that bypass rational thought: His animal instincts told him something was wrong.
It can suggest raw physicality or sexuality: She awakened his animal instincts.
