screwcap

Cork's modern rival

A screwcap is a cap that twists on and off, especially the metal closure on wine bottles that replaced traditional corks in many wines starting in the early 2000s.

Wine snobs once dismissed screwcap wines as cheap, but the closure actually prevents cork taint and keeps wine fresh longer.

Also spelled screw cap or screw-cap.
