mutineers

Sailors who revolt

Mutineers are people who revolt against authority, especially sailors or soldiers who rebel against their commanding officers.

The word carries connotations of collective uprising—mutineers act together to refuse orders or seize control: The mutineers took command of the ship and set the captain adrift.

By extension, anyone who openly defies institutional authority might be called a mutineer.
