move-in fee
Tenant's initial charge
A move-in fee is a one-time charge paid when renting a property, separate from the security deposit and first month's rent.
Unlike deposits, move-in fees are typically non-refundable and cover administrative costs or general wear from tenant turnover.
Some landlords use them to lower the upfront deposit requirement: The apartment had a $500 move-in fee instead of a full security deposit.
