horse cavalry
Mounted military unit
Horse cavalry refers to military units that fight mounted on horseback, as distinguished from mechanized or armored cavalry that uses vehicles.
The term became necessary only after cavalry began transitioning to tanks and armored cars in the early twentieth century: The last horse cavalry charge by U.S. forces occurred in the Philippines in 1942.
