monopolar
One electrode only
Monopolar describes something having a single pole or point of focus.
In medicine, monopolar refers to electrodes or surgical instruments where current flows from one active point through the body to a grounding pad, as opposed to bipolar devices where current passes between two nearby points: monopolar electrocautery.
In psychiatry, monopolar (now usually called unipolar) describes depression without manic episodes, distinguishing it from bipolar disorder.
