moldboards

Curved plow blades

Moldboards are the curved metal plates on a plow that lift and turn the soil after the plowshare cuts through it.

The shape of the moldboard determines how completely the earth is inverted, which affects how well crop residue gets buried.

Different designs suit different soil types: some create a gentle roll while others flip the furrow slice completely over.

The old moldboards had rusted beyond use after years in the barn.
