minor premise

Specific syllogistic statement

The minor premise is the second proposition in a logical syllogism, containing the specific case that connects to the major premise's general rule.

In the classic example—all men are mortal, Socrates is a man, therefore Socrates is mortal—Socrates is a man is the minor premise.

It introduces the particular subject about which the conclusion will be drawn.
