midnight madness
Late-night retail chaos
Midnight madness refers to late-night retail sales events, typically starting at or near midnight, often associated with holiday shopping or product launches: We waited in line for the midnight madness sale.
The phrase also describes the kickoff events for college basketball season, held at the earliest moment NCAA rules permit practice to begin.
More loosely, it suggests any frenzied late-night activity or the slightly unhinged energy that comes with being awake past reasonable hours.
