middle position

Halfway along something

Middle position refers to a stance or location between two extremes or endpoints.

In card games, especially poker, it describes seats at the table that act neither first nor last in betting rounds—offering moderate strategic flexibility.

More broadly, it can mean a moderate viewpoint between opposing positions: She took a middle position on the controversy, unwilling to commit to either side.
