mews house
Converted carriage house
A mews house is a small dwelling converted from or built in the style of former stable buildings, typically set along a narrow lane or courtyard behind larger townhouses.
Originally these served as carriage houses with servants' quarters above in British cities, particularly London.
Today mews houses are desirable urban properties valued for their compact charm and quiet locations off main streets: They bought a mews house in Kensington.
