merrymen
Jovial outlaw gang
Merrymen are the loyal followers of a legendary outlaw, most famously Robin Hood's band in Sherwood Forest.
The term evokes a group of jovial companions united in mischief or rebellion: Robin Hood and his merry men robbed from the rich.
Outside the legend, it occasionally describes any tight-knit group of enthusiastic helpers or accomplices.
