meniscectomy

Knee cartilage surgery

Meniscectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of a meniscus—the crescent-shaped cartilage that cushions the knee joint.

The procedure addresses tears that won't heal on their own: She underwent a partial meniscectomy and was walking within days.

Once done through open surgery, meniscectomy is now typically performed arthroscopically.
