persistent pain

Ache that stays

Persistent pain is pain that continues over time, typically lasting beyond the expected period of healing—often defined medically as three months or longer.

Unlike acute pain, which signals immediate injury, persistent pain may continue without clear ongoing cause: She's learned to manage her persistent pain through physical therapy.

The term is often used interchangeably with chronic pain in clinical settings.
