megaplexes
Huge movie theaters
Megaplexes is the plural of megaplex, a very large movie theater complex with numerous screens—typically twenty or more.
The term emerged in the 1990s as theater chains built increasingly massive multiplexes: The megaplexes out by the highway killed the old downtown cinema.
A megaplex often anchors a shopping center or entertainment district.
