masonry nail

Hardened steel spike

A masonry nail is a hardened steel nail designed to be driven into concrete, brick, or stone.

Unlike ordinary nails, masonry nails have fluted or ridged shanks and blunt tips that reduce splitting.

They're struck with a hammer rather than requiring a drill: He used masonry nails to attach the furring strips to the basement wall.
