masked villain
Disguised story antagonist
A masked villain is an antagonist who conceals their identity behind a mask, a staple of comic books, action films, and melodrama.
The mask creates mystery—unmasking the villain often serves as a dramatic revelation.
The term extends to anyone whose harmful intentions are hidden behind a false front: He turned out to be a masked villain, friendly to your face but scheming behind your back.
