manic pixie
Whimsical free spirit
A manic pixie is a female character type—quirky, eccentric, and emotionally volatile—who exists primarily to inspire or transform a brooding male protagonist.
The term originated in film criticism to describe shallow characterizations where women serve as catalysts for men's growth rather than having their own inner lives: She's not a real person, she's a manic pixie dream girl.
Often shortened to MPDG.
