man-to-man defense
Each covers one
Man-to-man defense is a defensive strategy in basketball and other team sports where each defender is assigned to guard a specific opponent rather than a zone of the court.
The defender stays with their assigned player throughout possession: They switched to man-to-man defense in the fourth quarter.
Contrast with zone defense, where players guard areas.
Also called man-to-man or player-to-player defense.
