maid of honour
Chief wedding attendant
A maid of honour is the principal unmarried attendant of a bride at a wedding, typically responsible for holding the bouquet and arranging the train.
In American English, the spelling is maid of honor.
When the attendant is married, she becomes a matron of honour instead.
In British usage, a maid of honour is also a small almond-flavored tart.
