longspur

Tundra ground finch

A longspur is a small songbird of open grasslands and arctic tundra, named for the elongated claw on its hind toe.

Four species inhabit North America, where they forage on the ground for seeds and insects: Flocks of Lapland longspurs swept across the frozen prairie.

They're related to buntings and sparrows.
